Truck driver doing paperwork at the wheel in slow-moving traffic. Get’s pissed off at being caught out and tries to crush me into the kerb. Sent on a driver awareness course at his own expense

Why does this bother me? This driver could (and should) have done this paperwork when parked, rather than on the pedestrian crossing on a congested road next to a primary school. The line of kids walking to school in high-viz jackets were probably told that they need to make sure they're seen (exactly what I was told at my primary school 20 years ago). Somehow people forget that it's the driver's responsibility to see obstacles, rather than the other way around. Why do we expect kids to have to wear PPE just to walk to school when some drivers don't take responsibility to look out for them? It's easy to imagine someone diligently wearing their high-viz walking in front of his cab to cross the road while he's stopped, and then being crushed when he starts moving again because he was busy with his paperwork rather than looking out for such hazards. Filtering past large trucks on this road every day, I can only hope they're looking out for vulnerable road users to avoid crushing them when they move. Some drivers don't seem to understand the importance of staying up-to-date with the movement of people around their vehicle, especially in a busy city during rush-hour. Such willingness to look away is especially dangerous for an HGV driver, and his willingness to use his truck as a weapon doesn't help!.
